A Wonderful Week in Dubai had by All !

Terrific golfing weather greeted those fortunate to participate on the recent tour of Dubai.  Overall Winner was Louise Antico from Roseville Golf Club.

A Wonderful Week on the North Island, New Zealand

In visiting the wonderful courses on the very North of the North Island we were blessed with some excellent weather with only a couple of holes experiencing showers. Despite only a low number of lady golfers on this tour Robyn Edson from The Lakes of a handicap 18 was the most consistent of both the men and the ladies winning with the highest best 4 rounds of 5 played of 148 stableford points

Ted Radford (Hcp 14) from the Peninsula Golf Club in Victoria got away to an excellent start in the first three rounds with stableford scores of 36, 34 and 41 points. Despite having reasonable rounds of 31 points in the the final two rounds, Ted had a large enough margin to win with 142 points - 5 points clear of Jack Tuckfield still in fine form since his recent win in South Australia.

A COUPLE OF PREVIOUS WINNERS GET HOME

JACK TUCKFIELD from The Lakes Golf Club managed another win on the recent South Australia Tour. Recently returned from a sabatical on golf from overseas, Jack started out slowly in the first two rounds before finding form again and enjoying another clear Tour Win. This followed on from his recent win on Sunshine Coast tour in August (see below)

BARBARA KELLY from NSW Golf Club despite having to take two days off from a virus was able to hang on for a close win from Liz Graham (a 37 time Club Champion from Griffiths Golf Club). The format of play allowed players to drop their two worse scores from 8 rounds played. This meant that every round Barbara played had to count in her best 6 scores over the duration of the tour. Barbara has an outstanding record in South Australia where she was Winner in 2005, Runner-Up in 2007 and winner again this year.

Congratulations Barbara and Jack !

WESTERN AUSTRALIA - September 2009

HOLE IN ONE !

CONGRATULATIONS to ROBYN EDSON from the Lakes Golf Club in holing out on the 4th Hole at The Cut Golf Course - it becomes her career 4th Hole in One !
Robyn is entitled to an AVGA Watch in recognition of her wonderful shot...

THE TOUR

We enjoyed the company of senior players from nearly every state in the country on the recent tour to Western Australia. Unfortunately, the weather was very unseasonal and it is the general contention that the seasons for Perth have moved back about two months. So the golf was tougher than expected on courses that would not have been considered easy in fine weather anyway.

Our day at The Links at Kennedy Bay had to be cancelled due to high wind and driving rain reducing the tour to the best 5 stableford scores from the 7 rounds played.

Jan Doyle (Hcp 35) from Concord Golf Club played incredible golf for the first three rounds with stableford scores of 36, 40 and 36. Jan’s handicap was reduced to 33 after her second round score of 40 points at SecretHarbour, but that didn’t stop Jan from winning by a clear 14 points from her nearest rival Brigitte Schmelzle (Hcp 33) from The Heritage Golf Club.

In the Mens side of the competition Allen Wilson (Hcp 15) from NSW Golf Club dominated by winning outright 4 out of the 7 rounds played. Highlight of his rounds were the 31 points at The Cut Golf Club in conditions which can only be described as horrendous. Gale force winds accompanied with squalls made scoring very difficult. The last two rounds at Lake Karrinyup and Joondalup (probably the most difficult of the courses we played) of 38 and 36 points respectively were first class and prevented George Hogan from The Lakes Golf Club from catching him.

Please note that next years tour to Western Australia will be in November

Congratulations to Jan Doyle and Allen Wilson !

SUNSHINE COAST  - August 2009

THIS YEAR THE SUNSHINE COAST LIVED UP TO ITS NAME WITH CLEAR BLUE SKIES A VERY SLIGHT BREEZE AND TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 20'S.

IT WAS PERFECT AND BOTH JACK TUCKFIELD (NSW GOLF CLUB - HCP 20) AND DI WOLFE (WODONGA GOLF CLUB - HCP 7) ENJOYED EASY WINS OVER THEIR FELLOW COMPETITORS. CONSISTENT PLAY EVEN OVER THE MORE DIFFICULT COURSES BECAME THE TELLING FACTOR IN BOTH THEIR RESPECTIVE WINS IN THE MENS AND LADIES SECTION OF THE TOUR.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JACK AND DI PHOTGRAPHED AT HYATT COOLUM.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE SUNSHINE COAST AGAIN NEXT AUGUST 2010.

PLEASE BOOK EARLY AS SPACES WILL BE LIMITED TO 50 PLAYERS.

ALOHA FROM HAWAII !

Away from the cold wintry conditions recently experienced in Sydney saw the White Family do a clean sweep of the recent Hawaiian Islands tour. Denis White (Concord - Hcp 11) held off a strong challenge from the improving Rowan Gietz (Roseville - Hcp 13) to win the Mens Division. The Ladies Division was won by Margaret White (Concord - Hcp 29) who tussled with Joyce Williamson (Concord - Hcp 12) most of the way. The final few rounds however saw Margaret draw clear to a comfortable win.

30th Australian International Seniors Golf Championship - UPDATE

The Final Round of the Championships at the RACV Royal Pines Resort was contested in perfect conditions on the Green / Gold course with pin positions exactly the same as the final round of the recent Ladies Masters.

Phil Constable from Mt Macedon (Hcp 6) shot a great 2 under par in the first round to take a commanding lead going into the final round. Jim Cordery from Southern Golf Club (Hcp 6) triailing by 8 shots made every effort to close the gap (including a career 2nd Hole In One on the Par 3 - 5th Hole !) by shooting a final round 1 over par 73. It was to no avail as Phil carded a 3 over par 75 to take the Championship Stoke by 6 shots. Former AISGC Champion Ian MacDonald from Muirfield Golf Club was a further 8 shots back in third place.

The Mens Handicap division was very close with three players tied on 79 stableford points going into the final round. Father Seamus McMahon from Woodford Golf Club was re-hadicapped for the final round by 2 shots. Irrespective, it did not prevent him from carding a final score of 40 Stableford points. Tom Duley off a handicap of 11 from Bonnie Doon finished with a terrific 42 points finishing just 1 stableford point shy of the Handicap Championship.

Dianne Wolfe from Wodonga Golf Club (Hcp 4) romped home with a final score of 79 the best of the day to win the Ladies Stroke Championship by a record 20 shots.

Kim Poland from Fox Hills carded an amazing 46 stableford points on Wednesday to take the lead early in the Ladies Stableford Championship hotly pursued by Alice Cran-Crombie from Kareela Golf Club. Unfortunately, Kim did not play her best golf on Friday (the final round). Alice Cran-Crombie started her round very strongly with 20 points on the front nine and ironically was paired in the cart with Kim Poland on the last day. Alice's final round of 35 points was good enough to take the Ladies Stableford Championship by 5 shots from the very consistent Jennifer Hadley from Concord Golf Club.

BLACKHEATH GOLF DAY in Great Golfing Weather

Peter Roth from Concord Golf Club successfully defended his "title" in the Blue Mountains recently when he won the day with 39 stableford points on a countback. Peter won the individual last year (2008) along with the 2BBB event with his wife Alice. It was a great day in the mountain fresh air.

Do not forget to diarise next years event to be held on Monday 29 March 2010.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA

Winners - Malcolm Pattrick & Barbara Kelly

A great week of fine weather, slight winds and terrific golf courses greeted those fortunate to attend the Mornington Peninsula Tour recently.

Both the Mens Section and Ladies Section were hotly contested with the winners only being decided on the final day at the Moonah Links Legends Course.

Mal Pattrick (Hcp 26) from Concord Golf Club who hadn't played well for a while, found some of his previous winning form at The Dunes on the fourth day where he had 44 points.  A further 42 points (off a reduced handicap of 23) at The Legends Moonah Course on the final day saw him get up and win from Keith Van Klink (Hcp 19) from Ryde Parramatta by three shots.

Barbara Kelly (Hcp 16 reduced to 15) from NSW Golf Club held off a strong challenge from Judy Stuart (Hcp 25) from Concord Golf Club. Finishing with 33 points at The Legends Judy was only just one point shy of catching Barbara on the final day.
