The Hawaiian Islands - June 2014

The Hawaiian Islands undoubtedly have some of the best courses in both condition and design in the world. Senior golfers make this pilgrimage every year and enjoy the land of Aloha along with the 10 courses we played over 16 days. For some that wasn't enough, so they extended by playing a further 2 rounds on the island of Lanai.

Alan Balderston (Hcp 19) from The Lakes Golf Club, played some of the most consistent golf over the 10 rounds played. He won outright 6 of the 10 days and won by an incredible 16 points from Phil Constable (Hcp 6) from Northern Golf Club. Alan had plenty experience on the Hawaiian courses having been on 6 previous tours to Hawaii. It was a nice way to top off his 7th tour by such a strong and decisive win.

Maureen Collins (Hcp 14) from Manly took an early lead by winning the first two days at Ko Olina and Kauai Lagoons. However it was the strong finish over the final 4 rounds that saw Roslyn Wynn (Hcp 23 / 24) from Russell Vale Golf Club move well clear of the field and win comfortably by 4 points from Robyn Edson (Hcp 19) The Lakes Golf Club who found form on the last day and returned a terrific 40 points.

11 golfers decided to extend the tour and go to the Island of Lanai, where we played the Challenge at Manele on both days. Robert Savage (Hcp 19) from Burleigh Golf Club won the first day with an impressive 39 points in perfect conditions. The second day was quite breezy adding a further "challenge" to The Challenge ! Clare Brown (Hcp 16) from Brookwater played beautifully the first 14 holes and despite only a couple of points over the last 4 holes, it was enough for her to win the day on a countback with 32 points.
